AutoGenFlex
STAR
An AutoGen and
QIAGEN Collaboration
Using their
expertise in nucleic acid isolation techniques and
instrumentation, QIAGEN and
AutoGen, Inc. have developed a new
automated platform for isolating genomic DNA from large volumes
of whole blood. The AutoGenFlex combines the
proven DNA isolation technology from
QIAGEN
and the robust and
reliable instrumentation from
AutoGen. The
AutoGenFlex is completely automated and easy to use,
with no manual intervention required. Isolate up to 80 x
5.0ml whole blood samples per day and produce consistently high
quality and high yield DNA, ready for your downstream
application. In addition to
whole blood, the AutoGenFlex
STAR can isolate gDNA from
tissues,
cultured cells
and
Oragene collected saliva
samples.
The AutoGenFlex STAR is now available with an optional
Sample Tracking And
Reporting
package.

The
FlexiGene Chemistry on the
AutoGenFlex
provides:
•
High quality, high molecular weight DNA
• More consistent
removal of contaminants and inhibitors
• Compatibility with all
downstream applications
In contrast to standard salting out
techniques FlexiGene DNA chemistry from QIAGEN begins with pelleting and
collection of nuclei and mitochnodria, which results in more
complete removal of RNA and other contaminants. Subsequent
protease digestion facilitates complete protein removal
resulting in high quality and high molecular weight DNA.
The purified DNA performs well in a
range of downstream applications including PCR-based techniques,
restriction digestion, Southern blotting, and sequencing.

Example of
Genomic DNA obtained from whole blood: Genomic DNA was
isolated on the AutoGenFlex using the FlexiGene 5ml whole
blood protocol. The starting
material was 5.0 ml of EDTA treated whole blood
from four different donors with five replicates each. The yield from 5.0 ml whole blood is 100-210
μg
genomic DNA with a high molecular weight of 30–150 kb.
